Denise Steen

Denise was born in California, living there until 2004. She graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966.
As the owner of "Costumes by Joyce," Denise designed and built hundreds of costumes for those who needed them, particularly for those living between Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Her inventory encompassed more than 3,000 creations. In a span of 18 years Denise built costumes for: Local high schools and colleges, Opera companies in the Bay Area, Benicia and Fairfield Community Theaters. In addition, she supplied costumes to various Napa Valley wineries for their theme conferences, and designed costumes for "Cinema Secrets" of Burbank, California, which in turn marketed them to other media companies, both nationally and internationally.
Denise won numerous national costuming awards, many during her 15 years as a member of the National Costumers Association. Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was a member of association’s board of directors. She moved to Spokane in 2004.
Following her career in costume design, Denise began making jewelry. Each of Denise's pieces has a beautiful look, and you will often find unique beads from her travels mixed in.
